Africa-Press – Tanzania. THE Tanzania Shipping Agencies Corporation (TASAC) has commended the Tanzania Ports Authority (TPA) for the significant progress achieved in the implementation of the Kurasini Dry Port Construction Project.

The commendation was delivered by TASAC Director General, Mohamed Salum, during his inspection visit to the project site being implemented by TPA.

While at the site, Salum expressed satisfaction with the pace of construction and emphasized the importance of completing the project on schedule in order to enhance efficiency and speed up service delivery at the port.

He noted that TASAC conducted the early visit to provide professional input aimed at improving project implementation, while also preparing for a formal inspection. Salum explained that once completed, the project will enable the port to handle more than 700,000 containers annually, a development expected to generate significant economic benefits and bring major transformation to the capacity of the Port of Dar es Salaam.

The Kurasini Dry Port Project is intended to improve efficiency in container handling at the Port of Dar es Salaam, which is currently receiving increased cargo volumes following infrastructure improvements and the contribution of the private sector in maritime services.

Speaking on behalf of the TPA Director General, Plasduce Mkeli Mbossa, the Acting Director of the Port of Dar es Salaam, Abed Abed, thanked TASAC for visiting the project and demonstrating close institutional cooperation. He stated that the project site, covering an area of 220,000 square meters, is in the final stages of completion.

Abed added that the Port of Dar es Salaam successfully handled more than 16 million tonnes of cargo in the first half of the financial year, and that completion of the project is expected to double the current container handling capacity. In addition, the project will increase vessel turnaround speed and attract more ships to berth at the port.

Once completed, the Kurasini Dry Port will be directly connected to road infrastructure as well as the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) and Meter Gauge Railway (MGR). The project will also host various government institutions providing port-related services to streamline and accelerate service delivery.

The construction of the project is being implemented in two phases, with the first phase expected to be completed in April 2026, after which services will commence immediately.
