Africa-Press – Tanzania. THE Minister of Finance, Mr Khamis Mussa Omar, has said that the Government recognizes the significant contribution of the telecommunications sector in promoting an inclusive economy through major reforms in the digital economy, tax payments, and the improvement of social services.
Ambassador Omar said this when he met and held talks with the leadership of the Vodacom Mobile Company, led by its Chairman of the Board, David Tarimo, in Dodoma.
He advised the country’s telecommunications sector to use the opportunity of the implementation of the recently launched National Development Vision 2050, to contribute more to the country’s development through the use of technology that will contribute to increasing the income of various groups including the youth.
Ambassador Omar promised that the government, on its part, will continue to improve and create a better investment environment to stimulate and promote the contribution of the telecommunications sector in the country in improving the lives of citizens and enabling investors to make profits.
For his part, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Vodacom, David Tarimo, thanked the Government for creating a favorable business environment for investors, which made the communications sector contribute over 1.1tri/- in taxes in the 2024/2025 financial year, with Vodacom contributing more than 621bn/- until March 2025.
Furthermore, Tarimo explained that since his company was launched, it has invested more than 4.5 trillion shillings to build communications infrastructure and last year 2025 it has helped the community more than 3.7bn/-by sponsoring various projects including the health, education, environment and youth economic empowerment sectors.
