Africa-Press – Tanzania. ARUSHA Regional Commissioner Amos Makalla has commended the management and staff of the Arusha International Conference Centre (AICC) for their significant contribution to promoting conference tourism and successfully hosting a recent international conference that brought together delegates from 120 countries.

Makalla made the remarks on Friday, February 6, 2026, during a regular meeting of the AICC Workers’ Council, saying he is confident that the centre is well prepared to host the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Assembly scheduled to take place in Arusha in October this year.

He said AICC has played a major role in promoting Arusha and Tanzania on the international stage, and urged all employees to remain committed and accountable in carrying out their duties in order to achieve the Government’s goals and vision.

Makalla emphasized the need to continuously improve service delivery, particularly hospitality and protocol services, as well as to strengthen the use of technology to attract more high-profile international conferences. He also called on AICC to prepare adequately to capitalize on opportunities arising from the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON 2027), some of whose matches are expected to be played in Arusha.

Earlier, AICC Director General Christine Mwakatobe said the centre currently holds international accreditation in the global conference industry. She noted that AICC’s strategy is to continue enhancing service delivery and the use of technology, while thanking President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, for her leadership and efforts in promoting diplomacy, strengthening international relations, and maintaining peace, security, and stability in the country.
