Africa-Press – Tanzania. TANZANIA, and Somalia have agreed to strengthen diplomatic ties by establishing a Joint Cooperation Commission to boost trade and investments.
The agreement was reached in a discussion between Tanzania’s Permanent Secretary in the Ministry for Foreign Affair and East African Cooperation, Dr Samwel Shelukindo, and the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation for the Federal Republic of Somalia in Dar es Salaam.
Moreover, the discussions that focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation also agreed to implement five MoUs signed in December 2024 Including one on immigration matters on Tanzania’s side.
During their discussions, Tanzania’s PS welcomed Somalia to begin constructing its embassy buildings in the country’s capital, Dodoma, while congratulating it upon joining the East African Community (EAC) and pledging continued cooperation in regional and international forums.
For his part, Somalis’ Permanent Secretary Haadoow said it is now time for Tanzania and Somalia to finalise aviation cooperation arrangements to enable Air Tanzania (ATCL) to start flights to Somalia.
Additionally, he said that Somalia has begun incorporating Kiswahili into its education curriculum.
