Africa-Press – Tanzania. PRIME Minister Dr Mwigulu Nchemba has today, February 11, 2026, officially inaugurated Mtemere Airport, located in Mloka village, Coast region, within the Nyerere National Park.

The airport launch was accompanied by the initiation of 20 additional projects, bringing the total to 21. These projects include park entry gates, visitor information centers, tourist camps, rest areas, guest houses and hostels, ecological monitoring stations, and ranger posts.

Dr Mwigulu stated that these projects are part of the implementation of the Third Five-Year National Development Plan (FYDP III), which aims to promote the country’s economic growth through tourism and ensure the proper conservation of national parks.

He also emphasized the importance of these projects in enhancing tourist attractions, creating job opportunities for local communities, and strengthening the protection of Nyerere National Park, urging citizens and stakeholders to collaborate in conserving the nation’s natural resources.

Mtemere Airport, together with the other projects, is expected to increase the number of tourists visiting Nyerere National Park and nearby areas, contributing significantly to the economic growth of the Coast region and Tanzania as a whole.
