Africa-Press – Tanzania. TANZANIA have secured qualification for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2028 Regional Qualifiers following a dominant and unbeaten campaign at the 2026 Africa Sub-Regional Qualifier B ended in Accra, Ghana, over the weekend.

The national team topped the table after winning all their matches, showcasing consistency, unity and strong belief throughout the tournament, an important step in their journey towards the 2028 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.

Their final fixture against hosts Ghana was abandoned without a toss due to rain, officially bringing the sub-regional campaign to a close. Tanzania was joined by Ghana who finish second as top two teams advanced.

Tanzania maintained impressive form throughout the tournament, including a commanding 153-run victory over Seychelles.

Ivan Selemani was the standout performer, smashing a brilliant 110 off just 52 balls in a dominant innings that set the tone for the victory.

The win followed a series of strong performances, including a massive victory over Eswatini and an eightwicket triumph against Malawi in their opening match.

Tanzania also recorded another emphatic result against St. Helena, scoring 205/3 before bowling out their opponents for 75 to secure a 161-run win.

The team further underlined their dominance by sweeping individual awards, with Ivan Selemani named Player of the Tournament, Ajith Augustine taking the Best Batter award, and young prospect Laksh Barkania emerging as Best Bowler.

Speaking after the triumph, Tanzania Cricket Association (TCA) Chairman Dr Balakrishna Sreekumar praised the team’s efforts and urged them to focus on the next stage.

“Congratulations to the team, the coach, manager and assistant coach for a well-deserved achievement. Now we shift focus to the next stage, TCA will fully support the team’s ambitions,” he said.

UK-based Cricket Legend and Tanzania leader, Kanu Rathod also congratulated the team, describing the performance as outstanding across all departments.

“Best performance in all areas. A well-deserved victory and a clean sweep throughout,” he said.

Captained by Kassim Chete, the team blends experienced players with emerging talent as Tanzania looks ahead to the next phase of qualification.

The squad includes Ajith Augustine, Ally Hafidhi, Ally Kimote, Arun Yadav, Dhrumit Mehta, Ivan Selemani, Khalidy Juma, Under-19 captain Laksh Barkania, Mohammed Mbaki, Mukesh Maker, Mohamed Kitunda, Raymond Emanuel and Yalinde Nkanya.

The technical bench is led by South African coach Mugammad Salieg, assisted by Riziki Mohamedi, with Ashish Dilip Maniar serving as team manager.
