Africa-Press – Tanzania. The Deputy Minister for Water, Kundo Mathew, has announced that the government plans to begin phased construction of buildings for the Water Institute at its Singida Campus starting in the 2026/2027 financial year.
Presenting the update in Parliament while responding to a question from Singida Urban Member of Parliament, Yagi Kiaratu, Mathew stated that the project is intended to improve the learning environment and enhance the efficiency of training delivery for students preparing to join the water sector and related fields.
He explained that the Water Institute is a government agency under the Ministry of Water, established in 1974 with the mandate to produce skilled professionals for the water sector, as well as related disciplines such as irrigation and construction.
Mathew further noted that the institute offers both short-term and long-term training programs at diploma, undergraduate, and postgraduate levels, contributing to the development of a technically skilled workforce to support the country’s water sector.
He added that the institute’s headquarters are currently located in Dar es Salaam, operating from Ubungo facilities for academic activities, while the Singida Campus continues to conduct training within premises owned by the Central Basin Water Board as preparations for its permanent infrastructure are underway.
