Africa-Press – Tanzania. THE Commonwealth has reaffirmed its support for Tanzania’s efforts to foster a stable, inclusive and credible political environment through dialogue and institutional reforms.
“The Commonwealth supports ongoing efforts in the country and stands ready to assist in fostering a stable, inclusive and credible political environment through dialogue and institutional reforms,” Commonwealth Secretary General Ms Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey said.
Her message was delivered by Special Envoy and former President of Malawi, Dr Lazarus Chakwera, during a meeting with President Samia Suluhu Hassan at the State House in Dar es Salaam on Wednesday.
The communication focused on strengthening political cooperation, democratic governance and national reconciliation.
Ms Botchwey reaffirmed the Commonwealth’s commitment to continued engagement with Tanzania in reinforcing democratic governance, the rule of law and national reconciliation following developments surrounding the October 2025 General Election.
During the meeting, President Samia said Tanzania is addressing ongoing political developments through national institutions, highlighting deliberate government efforts to enhance stability and accountability.
“The measures we have taken include the establishment of an independent Commission of Inquiry aimed at restoring stability and enhancing accountability,” she said.
She added that the commission’s findings will guide the next steps.
“The findings will inform subsequent actions, including accountability processes, reconciliation efforts and institutional reforms, as the government continues to facilitate dialogue through legally established platforms and engagement with various stakeholders,” she said.
Dr Chakwera said the Commonwealth remains ready to work with Tanzania in advancing the rule of law, political cooperation and national cohesion.
He concluded his working visit after holding consultations with various political and institutional stakeholders to assess the prevailing political environment and ongoing reconciliation efforts.
