Africa-Press – Tanzania. TANZANIA has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening diplomatic and parliamentary relations with the Democratic Republic of Congo , as preparations gather pace for an upcoming visit by Congolese lawmakers to Dar es Salaam.

This was reached during a discussion between Tanzania’s Ambassador to the DRC, Said Mshana with the Speaker of the DRC Parliament, Aimé Boji Sangara which focused on enhancing cooperation between the two countries and their legislative institutions.

During the meeting, Ambassador Mshana congratulated Speaker Sangara on his recent election to the top parliamentary post and reiterated Tanzania’s resolve to further cement the longstanding diplomatic ties between the two nations.

Additionally, the envoy also briefed the Speaker on the anticipated visit of DRC Members of Parliament to Tanzania, stressing its significance in strengthening parliamentary diplomacy and fostering closer collaboration between the two legislatures.

Furthermore, the ambassador introduced Deo Mwapinga, Secretary General of the Parliamentary Forum of the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region (FP-ICGLR), as part of efforts to deepen institutional cooperation.

On his part, the Speaker expressed gratitude for the visit and the congratulatory message, noting the enduring and strong relationship between the DRC and Tanzania.

He confirmed that preparations for the parliamentary visit are underway and reaffirmed his readiness to work closely with the FP-ICGLR to advance its agenda in the Great Lakes region.

Tanzania and the Democratic Republic of Congo share a long history of diplomatic relations, which have been characterized by cooperation in various sectors, including trade and security. The recent discussions between Tanzanian and Congolese officials highlight the importance of parliamentary diplomacy in strengthening these ties.
