TCA BOOSTS GRASSROOTS CRICKET IN ARUSHA

AfricaPress-Tanzania: TANZANIA Cricket Association (TCA) has donated sports equipment to Primary and Secondary schools in Arusha with to boost development of the sport in the region. The donation is part of continued TCA’s initiatives to develop the sport in various parts of the country.

Arusha Regional Sports Officer, Benson Maneno thanked TCA for their continued programme of developing the sport at Primary and Secondary school levels in his region for providing equipments, coaching and administrative training skills to primary school teachers.

He said the Arusha Municipality will be make sure that the trained teachers use well their knowledge in developing the sport to the desired levels. He said Arusha has been keen to develop the sport that is the reason why most of the Under 15 and 20 junior team members come from the region.

The donation benefited six primary and secondary schools and was handed over to them by the Regional Sports Officer on behalf of TCA. Some of the primary and secondary schools that benefited from the support are Sinoni, Ukombozi, Suye, Arusha Day and Ngarenaro. Kelvin Nassib, who is Arusha’s TCA development officer, said the six benefitted primary and secondary schools are part of 12 schools that have been included in the development programme. Emmanuel Mollel, who is Ukombozi Primary School teacher, on behalf of other teachers, thanked TCA for their support and initiative to develop the sport in the region and Tanzania at large.

TCA’s information officer, Atif Salim said the aim is to enhance the skill levels of the youth by providing them with equipments to further grow their talent under the supervision of the association’s development officers. “We have determined to develop the sport in every region, especially at grassroot levels,” “We aim at promoting the sport at all levels in both girls and boys’ disciplines,” said Salim. “These young Primary and Secondary schools pupils will in the long run inherit the sport from current junior and senior players when they retire,” he said.

“The young primary school kids have sharp mind to learn the sport and are eagerly to learn,” “We recently did the same donation in Kigamboni District in Dar es Salaam and now it was Arusha,” he said. TCA has had the junior cricket promotional campaign in various regions as primary school teachers with love to the sport are trained to become coaches of their own respective pupils.

The young players are later involved in several development programmes and get chances to participate in among other events, Chanzo cricket tournament that is aimed at for beginners.
