AfricaPress-Tanzania: The Chief Government Chemist, Dr. Fidelice Mafumiko has called on small-scale gold miners and miners in the region to be registered and legally recognized as chemical users so that they can receive training that will enable them to improve gold mining activities and increase income.
Dr Mafumiko made the remarks in Geita region while opening a training course on the safe use of chemicals for small-scale gold miners and gold miners in Geita region organized by the Chief Government Chemist’s Laboratory Authority, Lake Region Office.
“There are still many of you who are involved in gold mining and chemical mining without registration as required by law. There are also many stakeholders who use certain chemicals without following legal procedures and its importation is still unknown although its use in gold mining has not yet been banned.
All that is needed is for the actors to import and use the chemicals in accordance with the procedures so that the Government can have accurate data on its import and use and be able to identify them and provide them with training for safe use with the aim of increasing your income and government revenue. .
In addition, the Chief Government Chemist told the gold miners and refineries that the aim of the training was to raise awareness about the safe use of chemicals to reduce harm and comply with the requirements of the Chemicals Act and after training he believes they will register to be legally recognized for mining activities. using chemicals.
The chairman of the Geita Regional Gold Miners Association, Christopher Kadeo, thanked the Chief Government Chemist for providing them with training on the safe use of chemicals as it will increase their understanding of chemical use due to technological growth and major changes in the mining industry.
