Africa-Press – Tanzania. The Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), General Venance Mabeyo has revealed reasons led to the termination of contracts of 854 youths in the National Service (JKT).
He mentioned rules that were violated was the decision by the JKT youths to strike and marched to State House to demand employment.
General Mabeyo revealed this on Saturday at commissioning ceremony of cadet officers of the Tanzania People’s Defence Forces (TPDF) who have graduated at Tanzania Military Academy (TMA) in Arusha.
The CDF Mabeyo said on April 8, this year, about 854 youths in the National Service went on strike as they were demanding to see the president who is the Commander-in-Chief of Armed Forces, so that they would be employed into the army.
He revealed further that the youths who went on strike were among the 2,400 people who in the army’s recruitment plans.
Explaining what prompted the youths to go on strike, General Mabeyo said the military decided to slash the number of youth at Chamwino State House construction site.
The youths claimed that the decision to transfer them to other sites would deny them the opportunity to be drafted in the army, the CDF said in Dodoma yesterday.
