Tanzania–Egypt Forum Opens

Africa-Press – Tanzania. The Tanzania-Egypt Forum for Tourism, Trade, and Investment commenced at a hotel in Cairo, featuring officials, business leaders, investors, and representatives from the tourism and trade sectors of both countries.

The forum was held under the theme: “From the Mediterranean Sea to the Indian Ocean: Connecting Markets, Tourism, Trade, and Investment,” aiming to enhance economic cooperation and expand partnership opportunities between Egypt and Tanzania across various developmental and investment fields.

The events included discussion sessions and bilateral meetings focusing on mutual investment opportunities, developing trade relations, and boosting tourism between the two countries, alongside showcasing the economic potentials and available opportunities in the Egyptian and Tanzanian markets, particularly in infrastructure, energy, agriculture, maritime transport, and hotel tourism.

The forum comes at a time when Cairo seeks to strengthen its economic presence in East Africa, one of the fastest-growing regions on the continent, while Tanzania serves as a strategic gateway to African markets along the Indian Ocean, with a population exceeding 67 million and an economic growth rate surpassing 5% annually in recent years. Tanzania is also home to the Port of Dar es Salaam, one of the most important commercial ports in East Africa, serving several landlocked countries such as Zambia, Rwanda, and Burundi.

Economic data indicates that trade volume between Egypt and African Union countries reached approximately $9.6 billion in 2025, amid an increasing Egyptian focus on enhancing intra-African trade and benefiting from the African Continental Free Trade Agreement (AfCFTA), which provides a market of over 1.4 billion people.

Both sides are betting on revitalizing tourism, especially given the diverse tourist destinations in both countries; Egypt attracts millions of visitors annually due to cultural and beach tourism, while Tanzania is one of the prominent African destinations for eco-tourism and wildlife safaris, in addition to the Zanzibar archipelago overlooking the Indian Ocean.

Participants emphasized the importance of the forum in building sustainable cooperation bridges that contribute to stimulating investment and trade exchange, as well as enhancing economic ties between East African countries and the Mediterranean region, achieving mutual interests and supporting economic development.

The organization of the forum is part of efforts aimed at expanding regional cooperation and opening new avenues for economic and tourism partnerships between Egypt and Tanzania, enhancing trade and investment integration between the two sides, at a time when international competition for East African markets and resources is increasing.
