Africa-Press – Tanzania. The government is planning to build a-twenty-acre Agriculture Logistics Hub at Kurasini Export Processing Zone Authority (EPZ) located near Indian Ocean in Dar es Salaam to easy export of horticulture products.
This was said by the Deputy Minister of Agriculture Hussein Bashe in the Parliament during Tuesday’s Q & N session when he was responding to MP Neema Mgaya who tasked government to explain a strategy to ensure avocado becomes among strategic crops in Tanzania.
In his response, Mr Bashe said there will be a special means of transport with cold systems which will ferry fresh horticulture produces to the Dar es Salaam Port, ready for export.
Additionally, the Deputy added, currently, Tanzania’s horticulture produces are being transported through Nairobi Airport because it is cheap.
In maximizing the profit from the sub-sector, Mr Bashe added that execution of Horticulture Development Strategy and the establishment of an authority to regulate the horticulture crops including avocado are jointly expected to bring positive impact.
