Be aware of cybercrimes, would be retirees warned

Africa-PressTanzania. THE Director of Administration and Human Resources of Judiciary of Tanzania, Mr Edward Nkembo, has urged employees preparing to retire to beware of cyber crimes, fraud and corruption acts so that they could live a peaceful life after their public service.

Mr Nkembo gave such advice in Morogoro Region yesterday while opening the training of judicial officers who are preparing to retire.

“Online theft, fraud and corruption are serious incidents that many retirees have found themselves victims of. I urge you to recognize the existence of these incidents and take all precautions to address them,” he told the participants at the training session.

He reminded them that while retired persons are looking for the best way to spend their money, there are people in another group who are planning to get all the money they collected for all the years they worked under their public service.

Mr Nkembo told the participants that the question of preparation and retirement should start from the day one when one is employed because retirement is any time after employment.

“For example, if you are fired you will be retired, if you leave the office you will be retired, if you die you will also be retired and by the time you reach the statutory age of 55 to 60 years you will be retired from service,” he said.

However, the Director pointed out that there has been a serious lifestyle disorder after retirement, an issue that every employee should ask himself once he or she is employed.

He said that research conducted for many years of experience in the country shows that several employees have failed to prepare well for life after retirement due to low income throughout the period of employment and, thus, face various challenges.

The director mentioned some of the challenges such as not being able to get basic necessities such as food and clothing, not being able to have a good place to live, not having enough income to support their families, others marry and lose all benefits and change their behavior and start living luxurious life.

According to him, some retirees start new projects they have never known, receive advice from different people on activities to do, distribute benefits to children and other relatives and start major construction projects as a result, they go bankrupt in a short time.

“In short, your cash flow will be subject to inflation, unfilled income gap, interest rate risks, market failure, taxes, medical treatment and increased costs,” he said.

Mr Nkembo also noted that in the training participants would be introduced to various topics, including time management, retirement planning, personal financial planning, opportunities and challenges for retirement, entrepreneurship, investment, health issues and others.

“It is my hope that this training in general will help you to strategise how to carry out various legitimate entrepreneurial and social activities for your own development and the community at large and will help you to know how best to use your benefits immediately after official retirement, ”he said.

In addition, the director informed the participants of the training that on July 30th this year they would visit the Sokoine Agricultural University (SUA) to see for themselves various projects undertaken by the College.

He, therefore, expressed his hope that such judicial officers would use all those opportunities with the aim of learning various things that they could start doing now and continue with the projects immediately after retirement for the benefit of themselves and their families in general.
