Africa-PressTanzania. THE government has allocated over 1bn/- for implementing a postcode system project in Shinyanga municipal council in 2021/22 financial year.

Deputy Minister for Communication and Information Technology, Engineer Kundo Mathew revealed about the project while inspecting the infrastructure of the residential address and postcode system in Shinyanga municipal council.

“The money allocated by the government is special for Shinyanga municipal council and part of it has already been spent on erecting poles in four wards and 11 streets out of 17 wards and 55 streets respectively.”

He said the money will also be used to repair other poles, including conducting an exercise of providing postcodes to residential and commercial buildings.

“This will enable people to easily identify and access places they want to reach because one will just need to have a mobile app to get location of the house,” the deputy minister said.

The deputy minister urged the council to allocate funds from their local sources of revenue for constructing infrastructures of the system in Shinyanga municipal council.

Shinyanga Regional Commissioner Dr Philemon Sengati and District Commissioner Jasinta Mboneko thanked the government for allocating funds to implement telecommunication projects.

‘We are grateful for what the government has done to our region and we appreciate the efforts being made to ensure Shinyanga region has good residential and postcode addresses,” Dr Sengati said.
