Africa-Press – Tanzania. Last week, the government approved 30bn/- for the construction of state-of-the-art industrial park and business centre.
It will involve constructing five major industries like integrating industries for processing electronics appliances, agro-processing industries, manufacturing, and others.
Notwithstanding, in just six months of President Samia in power has seen the government recording over 7tri/- worth investments, thanks to the efforts put to create a conducive investment climate.
These new initiatives will set Tanzania on a new course to becoming an iconic destination of local to foreign investment whilst bolstering employment in the country considered agonising locals especially the youth.
Under this exemplary leadership and environment, Serengeti Breweries Limited (SBL) acts as a reliable partner to strengthen the employment sector by expanding its industries in Dar es Salaam, Mwanza and Moshi over the last three years.
According to the Managing Director, Mark Ocitti, in the 33 years since we were incorporated, SBL has made a huge investment into the Tanzanian economy and created employment for hundreds of people across its value chain.
This investment has been in capital expenditure and operational expenditure including payments into the treasury as taxes’.
Ocitti acknowledged how the investments have already spurred growth across SBL’s value chain. For instance, the company has employed over 800 workers and buys cereals for beer-making from more than 400 farmers.
The SBL sources 80 per cent of its raw materials, equivalent to 20,000 tonnes, from local farmers, thus creating more opportunities for big and small farmers.
Other beneficiaries of this investment have been distributors, sellers, customers and the entire community where the company gives back through its social support programs.
Moreover, since 2018, SBL has invested 76bn/- in capital expenditure in expansion projects in their business. And in September this year, SBL launched another ambitious 13.4bn/- spirits production facility in Moshi, which has already started to produce a world-class spirit locally, termed Bongo Don.
The facility is run by female workers of which SBL has positioned itself to embody inclusion and diversity in workplaces.
It has been said that the facility can produce a wide range of spirits products, including those that are currently imported by SBL, which means when it becomes fully operational, we will, in effect, save much needed foreign exchange.
SBL, in association with DIAGEO PLC, is the home to the world’s renowned spirits such as Johnnie Walker Whisky, Smirnoff Vodka, Gilbeys Gin, Richot Brandy, Bond 7 Whiskey and Baileys Irish Cream.
In the event to mark SBL’s three-year investment journey in Tanzania, Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa officiated the event and commended the beer maker’s approach to strengthen Tanzania’s economy.
The Premier instructed the custodian Ministry to work closely with more key stakeholders for investments. The PM recalled that the country is endowed with potential raw materials, a large population, and a friendly investment climate to build new industries and expand production.
The Premier continued the government has made significant progress to help investors in the country with deliberate intentions to ensure the creation of more industries to generate more employment opportunities and ultimately spur economic growth.
The PM added, “The government acknowledges the importance of the trade and industry sector to grow our economy. It is the pinnacle to ignite and accelerate economic growth in the world today.
We depend on this sector to increase value in our raw materials, generate employment, raise taxes, foreign exchange and prompt transfer of technology. Ultimately, all these efforts will help us alleviate poverty in the country.
