Africa-Press – Tanzania. Some 300 Africa’s health insurance stakeholders are expected to meet for three days in Zanzibar late next January dwelling on increasing the sector penetration and growth in the continent.
The conference, which is the second insurance retreat for Africa is expected to be opened by Zanzibar’s President Hussein Ali Mwinyi, according to organisers.
The Chairman of Retreat Organising Committee and Chief Executive of Insurance Companies Forum of Tanzania (ICFT), Mr David Sawe, said in those three days delegates will discuss the progress of the insurance industry from operational to policy perspective, engage in in-house discussions and strategy session.
“These high level speakers will incite our minds towards a journey of innovative solutions that will revolutionise the industry into tangible and sustainable development,” Mr Sawe told reporters over the weekend.
Also, they will conduct a directors training to all board of directors of insurance companies attending as supported by Africa Reinsurance Corporation, and will visit tourist attractions in Zanzibar.
The topics area of discussion during the conference are agriculture insurance, health insurance, life insurance, human resources and capacity building in insurance sector regulatory and policy issues.
The conference will be used as a platform to also offer award by recognising excellence in the insurance industry.
The Tanzania Insurances Regulation Authority (TIRA), Acting Director for Planning, Research and Marketing Development for Insurance, Mr Muyengi Zakaria, said the government would work with Africa College of Insurance and Social Protection (ACISP) to ensure that insurance sector is developed in order to contribute its required share to the economy.
The government target insurance sector to at least cover 50 per cent of the country’s adult population as part of implementing Financial Sector Development Master Plan for 2020-2030.
The second year insurance retreat is hosted by the Africa College of Insurance and Social Protection in partnership with the ICFT, Association of Tanzania Insurances (ATI), Tanzania Insurances Brokers Association (TIBA), Bancassurers, Mobile Network Operators, InsurTechs/Fintechs.
ACISP strives to bring new guidance and leadership to the mankind and share innovative ideas so as to escalate performance for the industry players and become bridge between Industry and Academia.
