Africa-Press – Tanzania. THE Kilimanjaro Regional Commissioner (RC), Stephen Kagaigai, has urged members of the Land and Housing Tribunals in the region to do justice while carrying out their responsibilities meant to resolve land-related disputes.
Mr Kagaigai made the call over the weekend in Mwanga district while launching the newly formed Land and Housing Tribunal in Mwanga district, an activity which was preceded by the swearing in of the Assessors of the newly launched tribunal.
“You have been entrusted with the responsibilities of ensuring that citizens get their basic rights as far as land disputes are concerned; your values, ethics and even intentions were well considered before you were awarded this honour by the relevant authorities, therefore it is my expectations and that of the people in general that you will go and do justice”, he said.
He said if the assessors went on to do justice and appreciated by the people, that would reduce the number of people who keep on reporting to the Regional Commissioner’s office and that of the Regional Administrative Secretary (RAS) for the purpose of submitting their grievances related to land issues.
He also appealed to the District Assistant Registrar of Lands and Housing Tribunal, Ms Zena Happe, to co-operate with the relevant authorities so that each district tribunal within the region got its own Chairman so as to curb the current challenge of some Chairmen serving two or more tribunals.
“The issue of one Chairman serving more than one Tribunal regardless of the reason of doing so, reduces the pace of serving the people and this is due to the fact that one Tribunal will have to stop to give way for the Chairman to serve another”, he said.
For her part, Ms Happe said the establishment of the Mwanga Tribunal was aimed at addressing the challenge which the people of Mwanga were facing in accessing such services in Same district, whereby she said along the same line, similar Tribunals have been established in Rombo, Hai and Siha districts.
“Before that, in Kilimanjaro region there were only two District Land and Housing Tribunals which were based in Moshi and Same districts; the Moshi Tribunal used to serve four districts of Moshi, Rombo, Hai and Siha, while the one in Same served the two districts of Mwanga and Same”, she said.
She continued to say that the establishment of the new district Tribunals in the region would reduce the challenge of people travelling long distance to seek services which are provided by the Tribunals, arguing that the newly established Tribunals were expected to start providing services in the current financial year of 2021/2022.
She appealed to the newly appointed assessors of the Tribunal to remember that they have been appointed in accordance with the law to serve the people through an important organ of the State.
During the occasion, three persons, named Hamza Mwanga, Julia Mganga and Emmanuel Mshana took the oath of serving the Mwanga Land and Housing Tribunal.
