Africa-Press – Tanzania. TANZANIA Cricket Association (TCA) said the national team are still in never-say-die spirit to fight for the country despite losing to Kenya and Uganda in the 2021 ICC men’s T20 World Cup Africa Qualifier final in Kigali, Rwanda.
Tanzania beat Nigeria and Kenya in their two opening games but later conceded two defeats to Uganda and Kenya on Thursday.
“It wasn’t Tanzania’s good day as Thursday’s results didn’t go as planned. The team, despite playing their heart out had to concede loss to both Uganda and Kenya. Despite the results, the players are in good spirit and highly motivated for the final showdown today against Uganda and Nigeria,” said TCA official.
As the event climaxes today to determine the winner, Tanzania will this morning take on Uganda while Kenya will play Nigeria. Tanzania will later in the day play Nigeria in the final fixture. In simple mathematics, the Tanzanians still have chances to progress considering the fact that each side has lost points.
The standing shows that in four matches, Kenya and Uganda are toping the table with six points each and lost once, followed by Tanzania with four points after losing twice are Nigeria are tail enders , after losing all of their four matches without a single point.
The would-be winner will progress to the ICC T20 Global Qualifiers that will bring together teams from different continents to compete again in pursuit to the progression of the ICC T20 World Cup finals to be played in Australia.
Tanzania has never played in the ICC World Cup, despite making several attempts. Under Kenyan coach Steve Tikolo, the Tanzanians have dared to do that after emerging winners of the recently ended ICC T20 Men’s World Cup Sub-Regional Qualifiers.
