Africa-Press – Tanzania. TANZANIA People’s Defence Forces (TPDF) Lugalo club’s golfer Vicky Elias is in a pole position for a title after the end of Thursday round of the Uganda Ladies Golf Open Championship at Entebbe Golf course in Uganda.
Tanzania Ladies Golf Union (TLGU) honorary secretary Madina Iddi reported that the 8 handicapper, Elias grossed 78 gross at the par 71 course to tie at 4th with Tanzania Ladies Open 2021 Champion Ugandan Irene Nakalembe who also carded the same score.
The 54 holes three-day events that wind up today bring together golfers from Kenya, Tanzania who were presented by two players Elias and her sister Chiku Elias and hosts.
Elias 78’s first round score put her into pole position but she had to work to do to finish in the top position.
“It is a good start for Elias; she is in a good position. Let’s pray that she can hold her nerves and improve her score to finish the top,” said Iddi.
The report shows the surprise leader was Meron Kyomugisha who grossed one-under 70 strokes.
The impressive score gave her a seven shot lead at the top of the board going into yesterday’s second round.
Kenyan Mercy Nyanchama who carded 77 strokes has tied with Ugandan Peace Kabasweka at the second place.
Nakalembe, who plays off handicap 4 is one of the event’s favourites after winning Tanzania Ladies Open Champions at the Dar es Salaam Gymkhana Club (DGC).
Another Tanzanian player in the event is Chiku Elias who yesterday returned 89 strokes playing off 14 handicaps. She can take a net title if she plays well in other rounds.
Sadly this year’s tournament has missed Tanzanian top golfers who play for the national team. The players are Madina Iddi from Arusha Gymkhana Club (AGC), Angel Eaton and Hawa Wanyeche from TPDF Lugalo.
Another national team member the tournament misses is Neema Olomi also from Arusha, who won the Uganda Open at Entebbe Golf Club in 2018.
