Africa-Press – Tanzania. PRIME Minister Kassim Majaliwa has ordered local security guards to observe professionalism and code of ethics when executing their duties to avoid rift between them and wananchi.
The PM also ordered all ward, village, street and hamlet executives to strengthen control systems by using a register for all residents. “You should put in place a system that will allow you to know who has entered and when will they leave your neighbourhoods or localities.”
The Premier issued the directives on Monday in Ruangwa while opening a training for Ward and Village Executives organised by Police in collaboration with Hanns Seidel Foundation (HSF).
The Prime Minister said if the local vigilantes and other local security guards will not work ethically they will fail to execute their duties properly, urging them to strengthen good working relationships with the people they serve instead of being a source of breach of peace.
Mr Majaliwa used the opportunity to call upon wananchi to welcome the local vigilantes and security guards in their areas and that they should not treat them as enemies but friends in ensuring safety of their areas.
He said the government has approved the training due to its importance to the people expressing hope that the training will be given high consideration.” You should put in place a system which will allow the training to be conducted to executives at ward and village levels.”
The PM said that he is confident that through the training the executives will gain skills and knowledge that will build a positive attitude towards the issues related to defense and security.
“It is the government expectations that you will go to work based on all that you will receive from this training. This training will enable you to fully carry out your responsibilities including facilitating and maintaining stability, peace and good governance,” he said.
Mr Majaliwa also said that after the training the executives should be a good link with the Police Force in order to continue to maintain good relations between them and the people they serve.
“Good relations will build trust in public and make people free to cooperate in strengthening security and safety in your areas of operation,” he said.
He further noted that all stakeholders in security and defense issues should cooperate in creating conducive environment for allowing people to participate in protecting themselves and their properties.
In addition to this, we must also cooperate with our defence and security agencies and ultimately continue to maintain our government’s commitment to make Tanzania a peaceful nation.”
