Africa-Press – Tanzania. CHAMA Cha M a p i n d u z i (CCM) in Simiyu region has called on Bariadi District authorities to put in place proper mechanism of handling petty traders to avoid unnecessary inconvenience between the two sides.
This was said by the party’s member of National Executive Committee (NEC) for Simiyu region Emmanuel Silanga, sug- gesting the necessity of district authority to meet with petty traders and discuss proper modality of handling the situation. He was concerned by an attempt by the district authority to grant own- ership of the new stalls to petty traders, saying the move could result in unnecessary serious conflict and inconvenience.
“Those with stalls in the designated areas should continue paying rent as usual instead of being granted full time ownership of the stalls,” he said during a joint meeting with petty traders.
He also challenged the Bariadi district council to utilise the available opportunities in increasing revenue collections for the money to be used in vari- ous development projects.
Mr Silanga also suggested that the former Bariadi Bus stand should be used by small vehicles operating within the district.
“This will assure safety of passengers and act as another source of revenue since all the vehicles will start paying fees on a daily basis,” noted the CCM cadre.
His views were second- ed by the Bariadi District Commissioner Lupakysio Kapange, saying the government is always ready to work on the challenges that people are facing in their daily activities.
“It’s good to have multiple sources of revenues, this former bus stand has to be used in a way that the council earns revenues for our own development,” he said in a note that was supported by the chairman of Simiyu businessmen Mr John Sabu.
