Africa-Press – Tanzania. MARA Regional Commissioner, Ally Hapi has ordered environmental officials at Tarime District Council to make the small town of Sirari border clean.
Sirari hosts One Stop Border post that facilitates trade at the busiest border with the neighbouring Kenya where also some tourists visiting the country pass through.
“I don’t want to see garbage at Sirari. This is the entry point. Citizens are crying about the garbage at Sirari,” Mr Hapi warned during a public rally he conducted at Sirari recently with traders and residents of the town.
The area residents complained to the RC that they are surrounded with garbage remained uncollected by environmental officials of Tarime District Council.
“The truth is there is a lot of garbage at Sirari and it is a pressing issue,” one of the Sirari residents identified as Paul Jumanne told the RC.
Mr Hapi said that should be the last time for him to hear about presence of garbage at Sirari.
“This should be the last time. It is an embarrassing for citizens to complain to the RC about garbage,” he said.
Meanwhile RC Hapi has instructed Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) and Immigration Department to educate traders on matters that will improve trading at the border with the neighbouring East African country.
