Africa-Press – Tanzania. MINISTRY of Natural Resources and Tourism Deputy Permanent Secretary, Commissioner Benedict Wakulyamba has called upon citizens to visit various tourist attractions in the country, including Saanane Island National Park.
Commissioner Wakulyamba who was recently appointed to the post, made the call lately when he toured the fascinating park in the Lake Victoria, as part of his familiarisation working visit.
“I have spent time to view the Island in order to refresh and sharpen my perspective,” he said, calling upon the park authorities to cooperate with other stakeholders, including citizens, to increase number of visitors by promoting local tourism while increasing revenue collection from the park on return.
Reacting on the visit, Economic Expert, Dr Isaac Safari from the Saint Augustine University of Tanzania (SAUT), commended Mr Wakulyamba for demonstrating good example to be emulated by other citizens.
He said the move is a far-reaching market strategy for many stakeholders, including citizens, to create interest of visiting local tourist attractions.
Meanwhile, the Arusha-based local tourist, Ms Annamaria Makweba who has been making her adventure to various national parks in the country, has visited three parks this year alone, including Tarangire National Park and Arusha, National Park.
He told the ‘Sunday News’ that she is self-motivated to view the national beauty. She urged citizens to be proud of tourist attractions available in the country, by visiting them for refreshment while taking photos to attract more visitors.
She also called upon the government, among other tourism stakeholders, to raise awareness to citizens on the importance of tourism.
Saanane Island is the smallest national park in East Africa, located in Mwanza region in the Gulf of Lake Victoria. The park is home to mammals like the impala, rock hyrax, velvet monkeys, zebras, clawless otters, to mention just a few.
