President of Mozambique Extends Condolences on the Death of Tanzania’S Former Prime Minister

Africa-Press – Tanzania. President Daniel Chapo of Mozambique has expressed his deepest condolences over the death of Cleopa David Msuya, former first Vice President and retired Prime Minister of Tanzania.

Msuya passed away on May 7, 2025, at the age of 94, at Mzena Hospital in Dar es Salaam, where he was receiving treatment for heart complications.

In a message addressed to his Tanzanian counterpart, Samia Hassan, the head of state conveyed, on behalf of the Mozambican people, the Government of the Republic of Mozambique and himself, his deepest condolences to the brotherly people of that neighbouring country.

“Tanzania has lost one of its most distinguished public servants, whose life was entirely dedicated to building a strong, stable and prosperous nation,” President Chapo stressed, highlighting the legacy of integrity, leadership and commitment to the ideals of freedom and development left by Cleopa Msuya – values shared within the historic brotherhood between Mozambique and Tanzania.

At the end of his message, Chapo reiterated that Mozambique shares the pain of the Tanzanian people and paid tribute to an essential figure in the political history of the region and of the African continent.

Cleopa Msuya began his career in public service as a Permanent Secretary in various ministries, later serving as Minister of Finance in the government of President Julius Nyerere. Throughout his career, he also served as Minister of Industry, Minister of Finance and Economic Planning, Minister of Industry and Commerce, and as First Vice-President, positions in which he stood out for his commitment to the economic and institutional development of Tanzania.
