Africa-Press – Tanzania. THE Missenyi Area Programme (AP), which has been implemented in the past 26 years, has recorded number of social-economic impacts, mainly in education, health and livestock keeping.

The programme was implemented by the World Vision Tanzania (WVT) in collaboration with the government with support from the US government.

On tuesday, the organization handed over the programme, which cost 23.3bn/-, to government for sustainability.

Missenyi District Commissioner (DC), Col Wilson Sakulo, applauded WVT and the US for the support in various sectors including health, education and water infrastructure, which had positively improved people’s lives.

“On behalf of the government and all Kagera residents I applaud World Vision Tanzania (WVT), and the people of the United States of America (USA), for the support in various sectors including health, education and water infrastructure, which had positively improved people’s lives,” he said.

He appealed to Tanzanians where such infrastructures were constructed to ensure that they are well maintained for the benefit of future generations.

Chairman of the Missenyi Area Programme (AP), Mr Isaya Kamazima, on the other hand, explained that the programme was implemented in six Wards comprising 18 villages.

He listed the completed projects including 66 classrooms, 18 teachers’ offices, 13 water tanks and 122 improved toilets.

Several vulnerable groups, including orphaned children and those living under vulnerable condition were assisted where at least 36 modern houses for the children were constructed while others were already registered in school.

According to Mr Kamazima, the community members, especially women, also benefitted by getting dairy cows and goats that have been utilized to get milk to improve the nutrition of their children.

He listed the 18 villages with the respective wards in brackets including Kyaka, Bulifani, Kashaba (Kyaka), Kassambya, Kakindo, Mabuye, Gabulanga, Bunazi, Omundongo and Nyabihanga (Kassambya).

Others are Mabare, Nyankere, Mikindo (Mabare), Mushasha, Bulembo (Mushasha). Kilimilile, Mwemage and Kibeho (Kilimilile).

According to the 2012 National Population and Housing Census the five Wards namely Kyaka, Kassambya, Mabare, Mushasha and Kilimilile had a population of 62,567.

Missenyi District Executive Director (DED), Mr Waziri Kombo, also commended World Vision (T) and the people of the United States of America for supporting government efforts to offer improved social services to the people.

He explained that from his own experience he was convinced with the value for money on projects implemented by World Vision (T), also urging other NGOs to emulate the example.

Missenyi District Council Chairman, Mr Projestus Tegamaisho, on his side, explained that during the coming full council meeting he would demand to get database on those who had benefited by getting dairy cows and dairy goats.

“The idea is to ensure the sustainability of the project. We must ensure that we avoid making similar mistakes we made in the past while implementing the Kagera Livestock Development Programme (KALIDEP),” he said.
