Africa-Press – Tanzania. About 4,067 youth have been equipped with basic entrepreneurship, basic technician skills and other skills by the Institute of Adult Education (IEA) through Integrated Programme for Out of School Youths -IPOSA.

IAE Rector Dr Michael Ng’umbi, said that the youths who are from nine different regions are part of the 12,000 youths admitted by the institute when it started the programme in 2019 with focus of supporting those who are outside the formal education system where these skills will make them study .

“IAE as one of development stakeholders in building the economy is implementing the IPOSA programme aimed at educating entrepreneurs, life skills and craftsmanship.

This supports them to take part in development activities,” Dr Ng’umbi said during the 57th graduation ceremony held over the weekend in Dar es Salaam.

He added that the training received, has enabled participants to create own jobs and having employable skills which have made them earn a living, support the families and take part in pushing development forward.

According to him, the beneficiaries are from Dar es Salaam, Njombe, Kigoma, Dodoma, Iringa, Mbeya, Songwe, Tabora and Rukwa regions.

On the other hand, the Rector expressed that his institute was meeting a financial shortage of challenges in realizing its projects of offering adult and continuing education to its students.

He explained the challenges to be including improving its ICT infrastructure capacity needed for offering Online and distance learning.

Other challenges included renovating its campuses and building infrastructures which are located in Mwanza, Morogoro and the main Campus in Dar es Salaam.

On her part, Dr Naomi Katunzi advised IAE to broaden its capacity in research and consultancy to increase its revenue income needed for running various development projects. Dr Katunzi who is also IAE’s Governing Council chairperson said that for IAE to only rely on government fund alone was not sufficient enough to release its activities, and said that there is a need for emulating other institutes of higher learning in earning income through research and consultancy activities “I am told that you are facing challenges of receiving finances from the government.

I promise that I will work on this matter and ensure that this is resolved.

However, IAE must emulate other training institutions by involving in research and consultancy activities which is a main part of income earning which will support your projects,” During the 57th graduation, 1,505 students of whom most are secondary and primary school teachers were conferred with IAE and now have certificates, diplomas and degrees.
