Africa-Press – Tanzania. SIX journalists and their SUV driver were killed early Tuesday after their vehicle rammed into a mini-passenger bus in Busega along Mwanza-Musoma highway, a District Commissioner said.
The Journalists include Daily News Digital correspondent Anthon Chuwa. Others who have been identified include, WP 11158 DC Johari Saan, Husna Mlanzi (ITV), Abel Ngapemba, Steven Msengi and Paul Silanga (driver).
A total of eight people were in the car, six people died on the spot and another one at the health centre.
Sources told Daily News that the journalists were part of the Regional Commissioner Eng. Robert Gabriel’s special tour. The commissioner was scheduled to witness the handover ceremony of the classroom construction project. He, however, suspended the occasion indefinitely.
President Samia Suluhu Hassan led Tanzanians to pay tribute to the fallen countrymen.
Busega District Commissioner Gabriel Zacharia confirmed that 14 people died during the accident.
“I have sadly received a report of a car accident that resulted in the deaths of Information Officers, Mwanza Journalists and Citizens. I offer my condolences to the families of the deceased, all journalists, relatives and friends. God rest the souls of all the deceased, Amen,” wrote Information Minister Nape Nnauye.
