Africa-Press – Tanzania. A TOTAL of 6,168 child abuse incidents have been recorded in various police stations countrywide between January and September, this year the Parliament was told on Friday.
The Deputy Minister for Home Affairs, Mr Khamis Hamza Chilo said that of the reported cases, 5,287 involved girls and the remaining 881 were for boys.
Outlining the child abuse incidents, the deputy minister mentioned some as defilement, gender based violence, domestic violence and child-marriages. Mr Chilo gave the statistics when responding to a main question posed by Ms Esther Matiku (Special Seats-Chadema), who wanted to know the number of child abuse incidents registered this year and action taken by the government.
The deputy minister named the number of cases reported as gender based violence (3,524), defilement (637), domestic violence (130), and pregnancies (1,877).
He said 3,800 cases have been filed of which 2,368 cases are at various stages of proceedings and 88 judgments have been issued.
