Africa-Press – Tanzania. Over 80 golfers from all clubs operating in the country are on the course as Morogoro Open Golf tournament tees off today at the Morogoro Gymkhana Club course.
The 36-hole national level tournament is organised Morogoro Club in collaboration with Tanzania Golf Union (TGU) and the tournament is back after the end of Covid-19 scare.
An official from the club, Anita Siwale told the ‘Daily News’ from Morogoro yesterday that preparation for the two-day competition has been finalised and the draw for the event has been already done.
Among the top golfers seeking Moro Open diadem is on-form Joseph Tango who last weekend won the Corporate Masters 2021 at the Dar es Salaam Gymkhana Club in Dar es Salaam.
The former TGU chairman, Tango posted a brilliant five-under 41 stable ford points last week and is expected to challenge young blood in the show.
He will be in the last group together with Hamad Rajab, Teonas Thadei and Z. Eward according to draw.
Tango will challenge the title favourites such as George Sembi, Seif Mcharo, Marius Kajuna, Vincent Gullo, Emmanuel Juma, Godfrey Leverian and Godfrey Gwacha.
The tournament will also see senior golfers David Mollel, Simon Sayore and Colin Higgins engaged in the battle for the top honours.
Fresh from winning the Kenyan Coast Ladies Open 2021 Angel Eaton will be among ladies, who support Siwale, from Tanzania Ladies Golf Union (TLGU) who requested ladies to turn in Morogoro in big numbers.
Siwale said that the two-day 36 holes tournament did not take place last year due to the global pandemic COVID-19.
She said that they are pleased to receive such a good number at the nine-hole course.
According to her, the tournament brings together top men and ladies golfers from Tanzania People’s Defense Forces (TPDF) Lugalo, DGC, Arusha Gymkhana (AGC), TPC Moshi, Moshi Gymkhana Club, and Mufindi Club and hosts Morogoro.
