Africa-Press – Tanzania. ADA-TADEA’s Zanzibar presidential candidate Mr Juma Ali Khatib has called on voters to support his party in the upcoming General Election, saying a strong mandate would enable the party to join the Government of National Unity (GNU) and secure the First Vice-President position.
Speaking at the launch of his party’s manifesto and campaign at Magirisi grounds, Khatib emphasised that the GNU framework promotes inclusivity. He urged Zanzibaris to strengthen democracy and national unity by voting for ADA-TADEA.
“Our goal is not power for its own sake, but to ensure ADATADEA has a seat at the table, contributing meaningfully in key sectors like education, industry and social welfare,” Mr Khatib said.
He argued that since previous GNU administrations included ministers from ADA-TADEA, it was logical for the party to now seek a greater role, including the First Vice-President’s office.
He also expressed his support for incumbent President Hussein Mwinyi, pledging to work alongside him to accelerate development.
Mr Khatib outlined a vision to strengthen early childhood education and introduce industrial skills training, aiming to prepare young Zanzibaris for self-reliance and reduce dependence on imports.
He also urged political players to conduct peaceful and respectful campaigns, advocating for “clean and civilised politics.” Meanwhile, ADA-TADEA’s Union presidential candidate, Mr Georges Bussungu presented ambitious policy proposals, including fee Wi-Fi access across Zanzibar, establishment of new industries to boost employment and construction of a bridge linking Zanzibar and mainland Tanzania.
Mr Bussungu’s running mate, Ali Makame Issa reaffirmed the party’s commitment to the twogovernment Union structure and pledged to address long-standing grievances related to the Union. The party’s campaign manager, Haitham Mohamed Suleiman, assured the public of peaceful and orderly campaigns, encouraging high voter turnout on election day.
