APL Cricket: Here are six teams for league showdown

Africa-PressTanzania. TANZANIA Cricket Association (TCA) has announced six combined teams that will battle it out in the forthcoming 10th edition of Advanced Players League (APL) to start on August this year.

They are Buffalo Blasters, Chui Challengers who are back in the hunt for glory, Simba Kings, Tembo Stars, Royal Rhinos and the reigning champions, Twiga Titans.

The teams shall feature selected players from different teams to share experience. TCA is also planning to invite guest players who will also be dispatched into the same teams to spice up the events.

TCA has traditionally been inviting foreign players from different countries like South Africa, England, Kenya and Uganda to come for the APL series aimed at seeing local players sharing experience as well as fostering relationship with invited players.

This time, according to the Tanzania Cricket Association (TCA), the teams will battle it out in an exciting T-20 structured format with international icons gracing the pitch.

TCA Information Officer, Atif Salim said yesterday that they are in preparations to host foreign players for the event, expected to be tough and thrilling. However, the information regarding the guest players is yet to be released because of incomplete procedures.

“We have decided to invite world class players from cricket developed countries for them to share experience with our local players,” said Salim. “This will be helpful to our players because sharing experience is better for them ahead of their cricket career,” he said.

The local cricket is enjoying a mixture of young and experienced players like wicket keeper Issa Kikasi, batsman Abhik Patwa, Kassim Nassoro and Riziki Kiseto who are back to their fitness, thanks to Tikolo for his intensive training. Kassim Nassoro, one of the experienced local players said that they expect a tough tournament that will bring challenge to them.

“We are ready for the challenge and ready for a full-packed action event,” said Nassoro.

Another experienced batsman, Riziki Kiseto said that the coming of international players will make the event more exciting.
