As the world marked the first World Kiswahili Language Day on Thursday, Saudi Arabia leadership has approved live translation of Arafat Day sermon in Kiswahili language for the first time and other 13 languages as an effort to convey the message of Islam to the widest possible audience.
The other 13 languages include English, French, Malay, Urdu, Persian and Russian.
Others are Chinese, Bengali, and Turkish, Hausa, Spanish and Indian.
According to the Saudi Embassy in Tanzania tweet, the translation will enable pilgrims in Arafat Mountain and people all over the world who are non-Arabic speakers to listen in their native language.
Abdulrahman Al-Sudais, President of the General Presidency for the Affairs of the two Holy mosques, Makka and Madina said during a media briefing that about 200 million people globally will hear messages of moderation and tolerance.
The day of Arafah also known as the “Day of Repentance” is considered important by Muslims.
It also holds great importance as the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) delivered his farewell sermon on the mount Arafat.
Arafat Day comes on the day before the start of Eid al-Adha and marks the second day of Hajj.
On Thursday, July 7, Tanzania joined other nations to celebrate World Kiswahili Language Day.
