Africa-Press – Tanzania. FEMALE students at Ardhi University (ARU) have been outshining male students in overall academic performances for three consecutive years by scooping many awards compared to males.

This was revealed over the weekend by the University Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic), Professor Gabriel Kassenga, during an awarding ceremony held at the institution premises in Dar es Salaam.

A total of 135 prizes were provided of which female students got 74 of them which is equivalent to 54.8 percent and male students got 61 prizes equivalent to to 45.2 percent.

He said despite the fact that female students are few in number at the university where they cover only 40 percent of the total population of the students but they have been doing better academically compare to male students.

Prof Kassenga said that the female performance at the university have proved wrong some people with negative perceptions that female students cannot perform better in science subjects.

β€œIn overall winner, one male and a female student got the same average so you can see that female students got much prizes compared to male students despite the fact that they are few at the university,” he said.

He congratulated all students who excelled well in their studies and urge them to continue doing better academically so that they can inspire their fellow students and community in general.

β€œI would like to commend you for the prizes you have been awarded today and some of you have been taking these prizes every year since you started which is good for your future and this tell us that when you keep efforts the success will come,” he said

He said the awarding ceremony which has been held for years at the university is very important because it encourages students to do better in their studies.

Professor Kassenga said the awards that come from different sponsors has been helpful to students who use them to increase their capital and improve their carriers and business after they finish the university studies.
