Africa-Press – Tanzania. ARUSHA has been rated as one of the most trending destinations in the world.

Tripadvisor, an American online travel company ranks Tanzania’s tourism hub eighth among the global trending travel spots for 2022.

Released last week, the index sees Arusha being ahead of Göreme, a historical town in Turkey and Greek’s Island of Santorini.

It is actually the only destination in East Africa to feature in the coveted index.

Mallorca tops the list of the trending travel spots followed by Egypt’s capital Cairo while Rhodes, the largest of Greece’s Dodecanese islands revered for beach resorts and ancient ruins is at number three.

Situated at the foot of the beautiful Mount Meru, Arusha is known as the safari capital of Tanzania’s Northern Safari Circuit.

It’s a bustling city filled with an interesting mix of markets, old colonial buildings and modern conveniences, like coffee shops with WiFi, and an array of great restaurants.

It is also a gateway city to a number of Tanzania’s gems, including Manyara, Tarangire, Serengeti, Ngorongoro and Kilimanjaro.

The city boasts of temperate climate and lush surroundings, coupled with the chequered history from Maasai unique tradition to German to British and back to Tanzanian occupation, providing for an interesting mix of architecture and history.

Arusha is also known for a lively nightlife with many restaurants and nightclubs, which has become a source of attraction for many visitors, who throng the city to sample barbecued meat popularly as Nyama Choma.

Christened the Geneva of Tanzania that compares the city’s diplomatic status to Geneva, a city in Switzerland known as a worldwide centre for diplomacy due to the presence of numerous international organisations, Arusha is currently the headquarters of the East African Community (EAC), Pan African Postal Union (PAPU) and the African Court on Human and People’s Rights (AfCHPR).

It was also once the headquarters for the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda (ICTR) before the court wound up its operations following the establishment of the Mechanism for International Criminal Tribunals (MICT).
