Africa-Press – Tanzania. THE Tanzanian government Spokesperson and Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Information, Culture, Arts and Sports, Gerson Msigwa, has asked the public to dismiss claims that the government has lacked funds to construct the Arusha Stadium project.

Mr Msigwa made the clarification in Dar es Salaam, noting that the construction is on track and expected to be completed by July 2026 as planned.

The PS was prompted to make the statement following reports and social media posts alleging that Tanzania had sought financial assistance from China to finish the stadium.

According to Msigwa, the circulated information misquoted the Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation James Millya insisting that funding is not an issue and preparations for all projects under AFCON 2027, including Arusha Stadium, are progressing well.

“We are not stalled due to lack of funds,” he said.

Elaborating, he said that construction of the stadium is 74 percent complete, with roof installation underway to shape the final structure.

He also said that the contractor has been paid on time, and most materials have arrived on site.

Moreover, he said that the government will continue partnering with local and international development stakeholders to implement ongoing projects, fund development initiatives, and launch new ones.

He also seized the opportunity and urged Tanzanians to prepare for AFCON 2027, highlighting the tournament’s economic and social benefits.
