Africa-Press – Tanzania. The Association of Tanzania Oil and Gas Service Providers (ATOGS) has applauded the government efforts to revive the 30 billion US dollars Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) project in the southern Tanzania.

“ATOGS commends President Samia and her government for the tireless efforts and determination to revive the implementation of this huge project which in turn will contribute heavily to the growth of different sectors of the economy for the benefit of the entire population,” ATOGS said in a statement issued in Dar es Salaam on Thursday.

A government delegation led by the Energy Minister January Makamba began talks on Monday with all the proponents of the challenging LNG project which involves transporting gas held in three deep-water blocks to a landfall at Lindi where a 10 million tonne per annum liquefaction plant is set to be built.

US super major ExxonMobil is Equinor’s partner in Block 2 which holds about 20 trillion cubic feet of in-place gas resources, about the same volumes as held in Shell’s blocks 1 and 4 where its partners are Singapore’s Pavilion Energy and Jakarta-based Medco Energi.

“In the past two weeks, we have witnessed strong and solid efforts from Minister Makamba who has held high levels talks with officials of international energy companies including Shell, Ophir. Equinor, Pavillion and Exxon Mobil have shown huge interest and desire to partner with our government in one the biggest LNG project in Africa,” ATOGS said in the statement.

It further said, “lastly, we believe that our government will continue to favour local contractors and suppliers as far as local content perspective is concerned especially in securing tenders and opportunities to these kinds of Strategic Projects,”

ATOGS was formed to act as a convening body for different players across the full value chain of the Oil & Gas industry in Tanzania.

It seeks to represent interest of the local providers as companies position themselves to participate fully in the emerging sector.
