Africa-Press – Tanzania. KISUTU Resident Magistrate Court has sentenced the former Simba President Evans Aveva to six months’ imprisonment while releasing the club’s former vicepresident, Godfrey Nyange.

The ruling was handed down by Principal Resident Magistrate Thomas Simba in the city yesterday.

He said in all ten charges against the accused and his colleagues, only the first charge of abuse of power was proved before a court.

“As a result of the indictment, Evans Aveva was found guilty of abuse of power,” said Simba. Simba said there is no argument that 300,000 US dollar was deposited into the account of Simba Sports Club which was from the sale of Emmanuel Okwi who was sold to the Etoile Sportive Du Sahel Club in Tunisia.

State prosecutor Fatuma Waziri told the court that in their records they do not have any criminal record involving Aveva. For his part, the defense counsel Kuge Wabeya said the accused was ill and had been attending treatment at Muhimbili hospital three times a week so he asked the court to give him a light punishment on him.

Simba also said, even if the court fines him it will not help anything because if he fails to pay will have to be imprisoned so the court sentenced him six months’ imprisonment with the condition of not committing any offense within six months from yesterday.

Aveva was initially charged with ten counts of conspiracy, forgery of documents, submission of forged documents, giving false information and embezzlement.

The other accused in the case are Godfrey Nyange (Kaburu) who was the Vice President as well as the former chairman of the registration committee the late Zachariah Hans Pope.
