Dr. Biteko also said that in the implementation of the Plan, he has asked the Regional and District Commissioners, as Chairmen of the Defense and Security Committees in their areas, to fully supervise the implementation of the Plan in collaboration with existing stakeholders.
“I ask you to ensure that you provide education and encourage the participation of women and men in all measures of prevention, conflict resolution and peacebuilding, defense and security.” emphasized Dr. Biteko
Giving greetings from the Ministry, the Minister of Social Development, Gender, Women, and Special Groups, Dr. Dorothy Gwajima, said that in preparing the Plan, the classification of specific areas of priority of the Plan has taken into account the content of Resolution No. 1325 of the United Nations Security Council.
She added that the Plan identifies four priority areas and presents issues of emphasis in implementation, including the prevention area that emphasizes the importance of incorporating gender perspectives in conflict prevention strategies.
“There are early warning mechanisms, a participatory area that emphasizes the need for women’s participation in decision-making at all levels in peace processes, conflict resolution, and peacebuilding,” Dr. Gwajima emphasized.
She mentioned other areas as the protection area that calls for strengthening measures to protect women and girls from sexual and gender-based violence during and after conflicts, and the Assistance and Recovery area that encourages the implementation of methods or efforts that consider gender equality in assistance and rescue efforts and during the restoration of prosperity and stability after conflicts.
Speaking during the Launch, the Minister of Defense and the National Building Force, Stergomena Tax said that Tanzania has recognized that to strengthen peace, women must be included in this Agenda, so the existence of the Plan will set specific strategies to involve women in peace and security and strengthen national efforts in preventing conflicts, promoting inclusive peace and protecting the rights of women and girls.
For her part, the Minister for Social Development, Gender, Elderly and Children, Riziki Pembe said that the Women, Peace and Security agenda is important for the development of women and all Tanzanians, so in implementing this Agenda, the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar has put in place various strategies and plans to ensure that Women are involved in peace and security issues and promote Gender Equality and Women’s Wellbeing.
And the Regional Director of UN Women, Anna Mutabati said that in implementing the Plan, Tanzania is not starting from scratch but is developing existing plans and strategies implemented on Women, Peace and Security issues under the leadership of Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, President of the United Republic of Tanzania, which will bring about more changes in various fields.
