CAG Report: Four parties erred for failing to deposit 31.7m/-

Africa-Press – Tanzania. THE Controller and Auditor General (CAG), Charles Kichere, has revealed that four political parties collected a total of 31.7m/- but failed to deposit the funds into their respective party bank accounts as required by law.

He made this statement in his audit report for the 2023/24 financial year, identifying the parties as NCCR-Mageuzi (26.226m/-), Chama cha Kijamii – CCK ( 2.882m/-), Chama cha Ukombozi wa Umma – CHAUMA (2.175m/-), and National League for Democracy – NLD, whose exact amount was not mentioned.

The CAG stated that failing to deposit the funds in the bank violates Section 15(1) of the Political Parties Act, Chapter 258, as amended in 2019, which requires every registered political party to maintain a bank account where all income—such as membership fees, voluntary contributions, donations, grants, and investment returns—must be deposited.

He warned that not depositing party funds in the bank endangers proper resource management and could lead to financial mismanagement or loss.

The CAG advised the concerned parties to comply with legal requirements to ensure transparency and accountability.
