Africa-Press – Tanzania. OVER 3500 campaigners will from today honour freedom fighter, Bibi Titi Mohammed, as part of marking the week for Union of Women in Tanzania (UWT). Among other activities they will engage in charity walk from Dar es Salaam to Rufiji District, in Coast region.
According to General Secretary of the ‘Bega kwa Bega na Mama’, Fatma Sarhan, the charity walk will begin in Dar es Salaam region to Rufiji District, Coast region.
The charity walk is expected to attract at least 3500 participants from Dar es Salaam and Coast regions, with a theme; “Women are pillar for victory.” She said as they mark the UWT week they saw importance of remembering Bibi Titi Mohammed for his movements of liberating Africa.
Mr Mohammed Hassan, chairman of the ‘Bega kwa Bega na Mama’, said they support President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s efforts to bring gender equality since she took over the top office.
Chairman of Motorcyclists (bodaboda), Mr Edward Mwaisongole, expressed association’s appreciation to President Samia for reducing traffic fines imposed on them from 30,000/- to 10,000/-, saying the move has significantly relieved them. The fines were scrapped during this year’s national budget sessions in the Parliament.
With that note, the group has decided to join the Union of Women in Tanzania (UWT) and Non-governmental Organisation called ‘Bega Kwa Bega Na Mama’ in charity walk to mark the climax of UWT week in recognizing contribution of female revolutionist, Bibi Titi Mohammed, as one of great women in the country.
“We describe President Samia as brave woman like Bibi Titi Mohammed,” Mr Mwaisongole stated yesterday in Dar es Salaam. Bibi Titi Mohammed was first considered as freedom fighter and supported the first president Julius Nyerere.
She was a member of the Tanganyika African National Union (TANU), the party that fought for the independence of Tanzania, and held various ministerial positions.
