MBEYA ,Mbarali: In a highly anticipated showdown on Wednesday, Bahati Ndingo, representing the ruling CCM party, secured a resounding victory in the Mbarali parliamentary by-election. The results of the election saw Ndingo surpassing her opponents with a convincing lead, solidifying her position as the newly elected Member of Parliament for Mbarali.
The other candidates in the race, Modestus Kilufi Julius of ACT Wazalendo and Zavely Raurent Seleleka of UDP, put up a valiant effort but ultimately fell short in their bid for the parliamentary seat.
Election returning officer Misanna Kwangura said other candidates who lost the race included DP’s Osward Joseph Mndeva who got 130 votes, CCK’s Exavery Town Mwataga (118) and Morris Nkongolo-TLP (139).
Others were Mary Daudi – UPDP (113), Fatuma Ligania-NLD (105), Bariki Mwanyalu-Demokrasia Makini (207), Hashim Mdemu-ADC (173), Mwajuma Mirambo-UMD (113) Husseni Hasani Lusewa kutoka Chama cha ADA- TADEA (155).
The officer said the CCM candidate garnered a total of 44,334 votes. The first runner-up had 10,014 votes. A total of 185,836 voters were registered according to the National Electoral Commission (NEC) but the turnout was only 56,662.
Mbarali constituency was declared vacant following the demise of then lawmaker, Francis Mtenga (64) in July this year.
