CCM hails Covid -19 vaccination drive

Africa-PressTanzania. CHAMA Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) Central Committee has commended its national chairperson, President Samia Suluhu Hassan for her initiative of allowing importation of Coronavirus vaccine into the country.

Also, it has instructed the party to start taking disciplinary measures against its members who are violating the rules, regulations and leadership ethics. The committee made the resolutions during its meeting held on Thursday at the State House in Dar es Salaam. The meeting was chaired by the party’s Chairperson, President Samia.

According to a statement issued by CCM Secretary for Ideology and Publicity, Shaka Hamdu Shaka, the party has also commended President Samia for taking the jab, a move that stands as proof on the safety of the vaccine.

“Her decision is considered as a higher level of patriotism for the country and health of Tanzanians in the fight against Covid-19 pandemic,” read part of the statement.

Adding; “The move is part of implementation of section 83 (0) and 84 of the party’s election manifesto for 2020-2025”. On Wednesday, President Samia led government officials and religious leaders in taking the Covid-19 jab, saying the vaccine was safe and that many Tanzanians have shown their readiness to get it.

The exercise was held at the State House in Dar es Salaam, with President Samia noting that the government will make sure the vaccine is available to all Tanzanians who are willing to be vaccinated. This came hardly five days after the arrival of 1,058,400 doses of the vaccines donated by the United States of America.

The government intends to vaccinate around 60 per cent of the population. To ensure adequate supply and accessibility of the vaccine in the country, President Samia said the government has also placed an additional order from the African Union (AU), through Africa Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

“As vaccination exercises kicks off today (Wednesday), the government is aware that the available vaccine isn’t enough, therefore we have already placed another order,” said the Head of State shortly before betting the jab. President Samia also explained that she was aware that some Tanzanians from the business community had taken the vaccine elsewhere due to travel requirements, adding: “There was nothing wrong with that…because some were vaccinated in Dubai and South Africa, when there was no platform of acquiring it in our country.”

“The vaccines is safe, that is why I have decided to take this shot, as you know, I’m a mother of four children, a grandmother, wife, and above all, the President and Commander-In-Chief of the armed forces, there is no way I can put my life at risk of being inoculated if the vaccine weren’t safe,” insisted the President on Wednesday. In another development, the CCM’s Central Committee has also appointed two secretary generals of the party’s wings.

The appointees are Gilbert Kalima who becomes the Secretary of CCM’s Parents Wing and Dr Philis Nyimbi who was named the party’s Women Wing (UWT) Secretary.
