Africa-Press – Tanzania. THE ruling party, Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM), has suspended all meetings involving party members responsible for vetting and electing candidates for parliamentary and ward councillor positions, pending the internal nomination process.
In a statement released on Monday, CCM Secretary General Dr Emmanuel Nchimbi announced that the suspension allows for the smooth facilitation of aspirants collecting and submitting nomination forms, as well as conducting the first phase of internal nominations.
“Effective immediately, CCM is suspending all visits, meetings, seminars and symposiums involving members of voting bodies at all levels,” said Dr Nchimbi.
“This suspension will remain in place until the internal nominations process has been completed.” Dr Nchimbi also warned aspirants and their campaign teams to avoid any actions that could violate party regulations or attract disciplinary measures.
He urged all members to uphold CCM’s code of conduct by promoting peace and unity throughout the nomination period, which is a critical step toward the upcoming October General Election.
Meanwhile, CCM Vice-Chairperson (Mainland) Mr Stephen Wasira has called on aspirants for parliamentary and ward councillor positions to begin preparations in earnest as the General Election draws near.
Speaking to party leaders and members in Magu District, Mwanza Region, Mr Wasira said that the General Election is a constitutional obligation held every five years. He encouraged party members to fully engage in the democratic process by voting and standing for election.
“Aspirants must honestly assess their own strengths before entering the race,” said Mr Wasira.
He reiterated that CCM has endorsed President Dr Samia Suluhu Hassan as its presidential candidate for the 2025 General Election, with Dr Emmanuel Nchimbi nominated as her running mate.
Mr Wasira reminded members that the term of the current Members of Parliament will end on June 27, when President Samia will officially dissolve the Parliament. He urged all aspirants, including sitting MPs, to maintain close engagement with their constituents.
Drawing from his own experience as a Member of Parliament for 30 years, Mr Wasira said earning votes is a result of sustained, meaningful relationships with voters.
