Africa-Press – Tanzania. RULING Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) National Chairperson, President Samia Suluhu Hassan, has outlined key strategies to secure the party’s future, stressing that its continued success depends on adapting to present-day challenges and delivering tangible results.
Speaking during CCM’s 48th anniversary celebrations at Jamhuri Stadium in Dodoma yesterday, President Samia stressed that the party’s future cannot rely solely on past achievements. It must instead, be built on policies, plans and actions that directly impact the lives of Tanzanians.
“While our history is important, it will not be enough to maintain our leadership. What matters now is how we implement our policies, the impact of our plans and how well we serve the people,” she said.
She insisted that CCM must continuously evolve to meet the expectations of Tanzanians, with a focus on identifying and addressing emerging challenges in order to maintain its relevance. One major challenge she pointed to, is youth unemployment, a problem not only in Tanzania but globally.
She said to tackle this, the government has revised education and training policies to equip young people with the skills needed for self-employment and the job market.
Dr Samia also said that efforts are being made to continue improving the business environment, attract investment, create jobs and strengthen economic stability.
President Samia also stressed the need to expand opportunities in sports, arts and entertainment, sectors with significant potential for job creation.
Drawing on lessons from other countries, she noted that investing in these fields generates both formal and informal employment opportunities.
During the event, CCM presented President Samia and Zanzibar President Hussein Mwinyi as the party’s presidential candidates for the Union and Zanzibar governments respectively in the upcoming general election.
President Samia also highlighted the government’s work in strengthening the tourism sector and the blue economy, both of which offer significant potential for job creation, particularly for young people.
Through initiatives like the Building a Better Tomorrow (BBT) programme, young people engaging in agriculture, mining, livestock and beekeeping are gaining skills, capital and tools to become self-employed and generate employment for others.
“These programmes and policies are designed to address current challenges, while ensuring a strong and stable future for CCM,” she said.
A key part of sustaining the party’s strength, President Samia emphasised, is investing in the CCM Youth Wing, UVCCM.
The goal is to develop young leaders who understand the party’s ideology and political foundations. She pointed to leaders like former president Jakaya Kikwete, Stephen Wasira and Emmanuel Nchimbi, who were shaped by the party’s youth mentorship programmes and made significant contributions to the country’s leadership.
“The future stability of the party will depend on how well we empower young people to engage in political discourse and defend the party’s principles. The Youth Wing must be strategically strengthened, as it forms the backbone of the party. As they grow, they will also strengthen the Parents’ Wing and the Women’s Wing, UWT,” she said.
While CCM remains confident in its strong support from Tanzanians, President Samia urged members to stay focused and committed. She warned against complacency, stressing that despite the party’s long history, it must continue to earn the trust of citizens through good governance and effective service delivery.
“This is an election year, but we must not let arrogance cloud our judgment. At the same time, we should not fear our competitors. What matters most is that we uphold the trust given to us by Tanzanians and continue working for their welfare,” she said.
CCM Vice-Chairman (Zanzibar) and Zanzibar President, Dr Hussein Mwinyi, said CCM marked 48th anniversary by celebrating remarkable achievements, reinforcing its role as a pillar of hope in Tanzania’s economic, political and social development.
“The party’s success over the years sets it apart from other political parties, demonstrating its maturity in governance and democracy. As members, it is our duty to uphold unity and solidarity to preserve these accomplishments,” Dr Mwinyi said.
