Africa-Press – Tanzania. THE ruling Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening democracy in the country, pledging to ensure that every Tanzanian participates effectively in political activities without fear or intimidation.
The party’s presidential running mate, Ambassador Emmanuel Nchimbi, underscored the importance of a robust democracy while addressing a campaign rally in Shinyanga Town.
“We want every Tanzanian to hear, see and understand that he or she has the right to engage in political activities and other socio-economic processes free from threats and fears,” said Amb Nchimbi.
He added that the government will continue to uphold press freedom so that citizens can access timely information and education on the country’s developments.
Amb Nchimbi urged Tanzanians to maintain unity and continue working closely with CCM for sustained prosperity socially, economically and politically.
On the implementation of the CCM Election Manifesto 2020–2025, he said the sixth phase government has delivered remarkable achievements that have attracted other nations seeking to learn from Tanzania’s progress.
He credited the success to strong cooperation between the government and wananchi.
“CCM is a participatory party that engages citizens in development, listens to their challenges and works with the government to address them,” he stressed.
Highlighting the party’s structure, Amb Nchimbi said CCM operates through more than 250,000 grassroots cells across the country.
“Our leaders are democratically chosen by filling nomination forms and being elected by members,” he noted.
He added that CCM has continued to build on the liberation foundations laid by the Father of the Nation, Mwalimu Julius Nyerere, with the responsibility of steering Tanzania towards self-sufficiency.
In Isaka and Kagongwa, Shinyanga, Amb Nchimbi assured residents that CCM would continue to safeguard peace and security as the foundation of sustainable development.
He explained that the forth coming CCM Election Manifesto 2025–2030 prioritises national security, unity and solidarity.
“The fundamental role of the government is to ensure every citizen is protected, property is preserved and our borders remain secure,” said Dr Nchimbi, stressing that there can be no development without peace.
During the rally, residents raised concerns on social services.
A Kagongwa resident, Mama Kurwa, appealed to the government to reduce healthcare costs for accident victims.
“When my child was in- volved in an accident, medical bills reached 300,000/-. Such costs are painful for parents,” she lamented.
Mr Juma Jones complained about the poor state of the Iponya–Nzega and Tabora–Shinyanga–Kahama roads, which he said are riddled with potholes and dust, inconveniencing road users.
Another resident, Mr Juma Katambi, highlighted the high cost of maternity services, despite official guidelines stating they should be affordable.
Responding to the concerns, Amb Nchimbi reiterated government commitment to roll out Universal Health Coverage (UHC).
He said the first beneficiaries would be expect- ant mothers, elders, people with disabilities and children.
On road challenges, he assured residents that the concerns would be forwarded to respective regional leaders and parliamentary candidates for urgent action.
While in Kagongwa, Amb Nchimbi outlined key development projects implemented under President Dr Samia Suluhu Hassan, including the renovation of Kagongwa Hospital, classroom construction and the expansion of water access from 81 to 86 per cent.
He added that all villages in Kagongwa have been connected to electricity.
Amb Nchimbi is seeking re-election alongside CCM’s presidential candidate, President Dr Samia Suluhu Hassan, in the forthcoming October General Election.
