Africa-Press – Tanzania. TANZANIA: CHAMA Cha Mapinduzi Women’s Wing (UWT) has suggested appropriate actions, including stern punishment, should be taken against the former Deputy Minister of Constitution and Legal Affairs, Pauline Gekul, if the allegations raised against her are proven true.

Recently, President Samia Suluhu Hassan annulled the appointment of Gekul as the deputy minister.

A statement issued on Tuesday by UWT, Chairperson Mary Chatanda stated that the wing has zero tolerance for sexual violence.

“The UWT is involved in nationwide protests against sexual violence and moral decay. We strongly oppose this action, and if the accusations against Pauline Gekul are proven, appropriate measures and severe punishment should be administered.

“UWT will not tolerate any female leader proven to be committing acts of sexual violence. We emphasize the importance of carrying out duties in accordance with oaths, leadership values, and good governance,” the statement read.

The Union further congratulated President Samia Suluhu Hassan for revoking the appointment of Ms. Gekul urged government agencies to expedite investigations for the sake of citizens’ peace.

The MP in question, Paulina Gekul, is accused of torturing and mistreating one of her employees, Hashim Philemon.

Beleaguered Gekul is also serving as Babati Rural Member of Parliament.
