Africa-Press – Tanzania. CHAMA cha Ukombozi wa Umma (CHAUMMA) has officially announced its Secretary-General, Salum Mwalimu, as the party’s presidential candidate as Tanzania heads for the General Elections on October 29th this year.
The announcement was made today, August 7, 2025, by CHAUMMA’s Deputy Secretary-General, Benson Kigaila, during the party’s General Assembly held at the Mlimani City Hall in Dar es Salaam.
According to Kigaila, Salum Mwalimu’s nomination was made by the party’s National Executive Council (NEC), the body responsible for proposing presidential candidates for both Tanzania Mainland and Zanzibar. The council held a meeting yesterday, ahead of the assembly, and presented the nomination to party delegates.
“After conducting research and deep reflection on who would best lead us in this presidential race, the National Executive Council unanimously agreed on Salum Mwalimu. We believe he is the right person with the ability to steer the nation in the right direction,” said Kigaila.
He further explained that the selection process was based on various criteria, including the candidate’s understanding of the challenges facing Tanzanians and a genuine commitment to addressing them.
With this nomination, Salum Mwalimu is now officially CHAUMMA’s presidential candidate and is expected to use the party’s manifesto as a guiding tool in his campaign toward the 2025 General Election.
Chaumma also revealed Devotha Minja as Salum Mwalimu’s running mate.
