Africa-PressTanzania. Zanzibar Chief Secretary, Eng Zena Said has called for collaboration between Tanzania Mainland women engineers and their counterparts from Zanzibar for the betterment of the country.

The Chief Secretary made the remarks on Friday during the opening of the 6th Tanzania Women Engineer Convention and Exhibition (TAWECE) held at the University of Dar es Salaam insisting collaboration is important in pushing development of any country.

She advised female engineering undergraduate students aspiring to be engineers to have an entrepreneurial mind and not be dependent on employment.

She reminded the community that roles played by the engineering field played pivotal roles as the country graduated into a middle-income economy.

Meanwhile the Engineers’ Registration Board (ERB) registrar Eng Patrick Balozi said the available statistics suggest that more intervention is needed to attract women in the engineering field.

“We have 31,724 registered engineers in various levels, of which women are only 3,544 (equivalent to 11 percent),” she told the participants.
